Yankee Phillips

They called him “Yankee Phillips”
But he was a southern boy at heart.
He came down from Massachusetts
‘Cause comforts what he sought.

Winter weather up north, it just ain’t no good
It freezes your nipples, or at least I think it could.
A Pina Colada with bikini girls, was his game
He was an ok guy, but a little lame.

Well, he rambled down to Kentucky
Got in trouble with the law
You see being an asshole was his big down fall
So, he figured he’d better leave that place.
He loaded up his car and bought a cold case.

As he was flyin’ down Georgia Hwy.75
So drunk, he wouldn’t have known, if he did arrive,
A realization came to him, he’d lost his youth.
Life wasn’t crazy parties, just sipping vermouth.

Oh, no, “Yankee Phillips”,
life is much more…
It’s ligntnin’ strikes and lava flow
It’s a mothers breast and a garden door
It’s things you wouldn’t imagine, but would really adore.

It’s gettin’ high and feelin’ the same
It’s lovin’ your woman and carin’ if she came
It’s flowin down a river in a birch canoe
It’s feelin’ one with nature and me and you.

It’s carin’, not fightin’, not hurtin’ each other.
It’s lending your hand and helpin’ your brother.
It’s people; iron workers, secretaries, and plumbers.
It’s about good days, great days, and bummers.

It’s swimmin’ naked in the old farm pond.
It’s “Life doesn’t give you a magical wand”.
But a little compassion goes a long way
And it fills ones heart with happiness all day.

Yeah, Yankee Phillips, pulled over and slept that night.
His new realization had given him quite a fright.
But he looked at the world now with diffferent eyes.
He saw that a person lives and a person dies.
And it all comes down to truth , not lies.

He ended up in Florida, way down on the keys.
He found himslf an old lady, named Louise.
They volunteer at the shelter, they wander the beach by their home.
They are always in hand together, you never see them alone.

Yeah, Yankee Phillips, he got insight
Yeah, Yankee , he was a lucky man that night.
It’s not about who you know or how your clothes fit
It’s all about love and compassion…that’s it!!!!
